winter beauty

Skiing this weekend and loving it. The view from the lift is always captivating for me. No better way to spend a day. 49 Degrees North

Amaryllis Blossom #6

Triumphantly, a truly elegant soft blossom opens fully to reveal a soft green tint at the center with pink stripes reaching out from the center on light pink petals that are trimmed in the same bright pink on their edges. Another beauty does the same on the other side. Blossoms that open wide with an abundance of soft petals cloistered with delicate colored lace at their edges, they remind me of the soft petals on a rose. The stalk became heavy requiring immediate support with a garden stick by Pete as he arrived home from work.

I am blessed by Peter’s green thumb and for the loving memories I hold dear of Mom that are brought back to me when I look at these beauties. Amaryllis blossoms and Mom are one in the same for me.

Amaryllis Blossom #2

Not too long ago, we noticed a little startup coming out of the dirt in a dormant pot. Pete moved it up front and began watering it carefully. Soon 3 pods began swelling at the top of the rising stalk. Rather strange looking contraption isn’t it?

Now the debate became, “Is it two or three blooms?” As this stalk proceeded with it blooming, we noticed little edges of dark pink showing on the pods as they grew.
